Trekking in Sikkim,
with people who
know the trail
Himalayan Alpine Tours and Treks is based in Gitang, a Himalayan village in the Dentam valley, just below Uttarey town in West Sikkim. Uttarey sits at around 2,012 metres (6,600 ft), close to the Nepal border, and is the natural gateway to more than 22 trekking routes, including the Dzongri Trek, Goecha La Trek, and the Singalila Range trail. When we say we know this terrain, we mean it the way only a local can — by season, by weather, by the condition of the path after monsoon versus before it.
West Sikkim is also where the deeper history of Sikkim sits. Yuksom, the first capital of the Chogyal kingdom; Pemayangtse Monastery, standing since the 17th century; the ruins of Rabdentse above the treeline; and the sacred waters of Khecheopalri Lake, held holy by Buddhist and Hindu communities alike. Our tours are shaped by all of this — the mountains and the culture that has grown in their shadow for centuries.
