Dzongri Trek

8 Days

The Dzongri Trek in West Sikkim is a fast-track high-altitude trek offering close-range views of the Kanchenjunga massif within a week. Starting from Yuksom (1,785 m), the trail climbs to Dzongri Top (4,200 m) and covers a total distance of approximately 50 kilometers. This route is part of the famed Goechala trail but stops short at Dzongri, making it ideal for trekkers who want dramatic Himalayan scenery without the extended duration or technical sections.

With just 5 to 6 days on the trail, the Dzongri Trek balances moderate physical demand with high-altitude exposure. The climb passes through mossy forests, suspension bridges, and open ridges before reaching the alpine grasslands of Dzongri. From here, trekkers witness sunrise views over Kanchenjunga, Pandim, and Kabru—among the most iconic Himalayan vistas in India.

Why Go for the Dzongri Trek?

The Dzongri Trek is one of the few treks in India that offers a full alpine experience in under a week. It is the best alternative for trekkers seeking Himalayan grandeur without venturing deep into remote terrain.

Dzongri Trek difficulty is rated moderate. No technical skills are required, but steep sections and rapid altitude gain demand decent fitness and acclimatization. The route ascends nearly 2,500 meters, offering trekkers a firsthand experience of high-mountain trekking.

The best time for the Dzongri Trek is from April to June (for rhododendron bloom and mild weather) and late September to early November (for crisp mountain views and clear skies). Winters are also possible for experienced groups, but snow makes the trail tougher and colder.

The Dzongri Trek cost ranges from ₹9,500 to ₹14,000 per person for a 5 to 6-day itinerary, inclusive of permits, guide, camping gear, and meals. Solo or custom treks may cost slightly more depending on logistics and support team size.
